College got to me last week. Three tests and a project didn’t leave me enough time to write a top five piece. So this week I’m going to do a 2-in-1 kind of deal. As I mention my rankings this week, I’ll make a note of where they would’ve been ranked last week. Luckily for me, there was only shifts in the rankings this week compared to last week. No new teams this week that wouldn’t have been here last week. With that said, we had a decent number of close games this week. 8 total contests were decided by 10 or less points, with the favorite pulling it out in basically all of them. So here’s how I see the rankings playing out 10 weeks into the season
Number Five – New Orleans Saints (Last week rank – 5)
If you remember from the first time the Saints were in my top five, they weren’t kicked out because of a loss, they were kicked out because I found a superior team. Since then the Saints haven’t lost any momentum. They’ve now won 7 straight, are first in the NFC South, and just dismantled the Bills in Buffalo. Mark Ingram had a great day rushing in 3 touchdowns (The Saints had SIX rushing touchdowns as a team) and Michael Thomas received 117 yards on 9 receptions. Next up they host the Redskins.
Number Four – Pittsburgh Steelers (Last week rank – 3)
The Steelers narrowly escaped Indy with a win this week, it took an 11 point 4th quarter to do it. JuJu Smith continued his impressive season bringing in 97 yards through the air with a touchdown. Antonio Brown was held to just 47 yards on 3 receptions, Le’Veon Bell rushed for 80. Next up is a Thursday Night matchup with Tennessee
Number Three – Los Angeles Rams (Last week rank – 4)
The Rams continue to impress each and every week and their offense has not slowed down yet. In the last three weeks, their margin of victory has been 33, 34, and 26. Their opponents were the Cardinals, Giants, and Texans, but it’s still an impressive feat. They rank 3rd in the NFL in total offense (388.9). In this game, Jared Goff threw for 355 yards and 3 touchdowns. Next up for them is a game in Minnesota.
Number Two – New England Patriots (Last week rank – 2)
Tom Brady and company continued the tradition of dismantling the struggling Broncos. They won 41-16 where Brady threw for 266 yards and 3 TD’s. The game got so out of hand that Brian Hoyer even came in the game and completed 3 passes on 3 attempts for 37 yards. Not much to say about this game, it was about what one should’ve expected. Their next game will be against the Raiders.
Number One – Philadelphia Eagles (Last week rank – 1)
The Eagles were on their bye this week but continue to be the hottest team in the NFL. They rank 4th in the NFL in total offense (377) and have the best rushing defense in the league (66.4, Carolina is 2nd with 80.6). They’ve got the Sunday Night game in Dallas this week which should be an interesting one. If they win, it’s going to be nearly impossible for anyone to catch them in the NFC East.
